Getting Into S.H.A.P.E

GETTING INTO S.H.A.P.E

Welcome West End Family and Friends. Here you will be able to find health tips and information.

The inspiration for this installment of health tips comes from Bishop Paul Thomas as he preached from Romans 11:29-32, Learning To Love Your SHAPE. Now for anyone who may not have been able to attend service and want to get a full understanding on how all this ties in together, be sure to get the CD or DVD of this powerful message. Now Bishop Thomas explained how SHAPE stands for Special – Heart – Ability – Personality – Experiences. So getting right in line with Loving our SHAPE, this is how it will apply to the Health and Wellness portion of our lives.

Making It Work

Starting Point – Everyone has one. This has to deal with where you are today. It is a good idea as a starting point to speak with a health care professional to make sure there are no underlying issues you should be aware of or movements you should stay away from.

Health – This deals with you continually being aware of your health risks by seeing a doctor regularly for routine check ups and screenings. Be aware of any illnesses that may run in your family like Heart Disease, High Blood Pressure, Diabetes, High Cholesterol, ETC….

Ambition – Simply put, what are your goals ? What would you like to achieve ? – Where There Is No Vision, The People Perish – Be sure to be clear and honest with yourself and what you would like to do whether it’s to lose 5 or 10 pounds, to be able to walk from the back to the front of the church and back to your seat during tithes and offerings without being out of breath, or to become a world class bodybuilder with a training studio full of trophies. (I had to laugh at that last one myself)

Physical Activity – Be aware that ANY Goal worth achieving is going to take some type of Physical Effort ! Now, does that mean you have to spend 2 hours a day in the gym standing in a pool of sweat by the end of each workout ??? No, because an Hour and Forty Five Minutes is More than enough time ! (just kidding of course) It is perfectly fine for you to find a physical activity that you enjoy and indulge in that on a regular basis. It could be Swimming, Jogging, Weight Lifting, Line Dancing, Walking, Playing Tennis or Running up and down the aisles at church Praising His Name ! Like Nike says, Just Do It !

Eating Habits – Nutrition becomes a very important part of the equation as well. Do you have to be on some Crazy Strict Diet of Wine and Bread on Communion Sundays ? NO, but it is a good idea to be aware of what you are eating from day to day. Keep in mind, this is what gives the body the energy it needs to perform day to day tasks. God created everything that we need to fuel and heal the body right here on earth. Food can be the fastest, safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison.

As we go on, we will dig deeper into each one of the Health and Wellness Definition of SHAPE so you understand how you can apply these principles to your everyday life. But for now, just let some of this sink in until our next installment.
